Hey everyone,

haha this hasn't been updated in a looong time, but hopefully, we'll be reversing the trend in the coming weeks. A lot of exciting things are afoot, so if you didn't make it to the meeting today, read the following :)

Agenda:

1. A Mrs. Kligahm sent the following to Ms. Wheelwright about a water monitoring/conservation project at Crabby Creek Park which starts from Upper Merion township and flows into T/E. Key details are bolded since you probably don't want to read the whole thing.

I was thinking the Stroud representative (Kristen Travers) might be able to conduct her stream ecology/water monitoring workshop after school at Crabby Creek Park, which is just down the hill from Conestoga. That might make it convenient for students. Then students who were interested and able to work on it further, could continue with arrangements to do monitoring on a subsequent day at Crow Creek (which is over in the direction of Cabrini College, out Upper Gulph Road), and meet with the Upper Merion students

Starting at Crabby Creek might get the students interested in another project going on. There will be stream restoration work getting started on Crabby Creek this year. A coalition of groups has gotten a grant to do the work, and they are eager for volunteers to monitor the creek above and below the restoration site over an extended period of time. I'm getting together interested people in the community to start a Crabby Creek monitoring group. The idea is to do monthly water testing and stream observation, with an invertebrate survey included once or twice a year. I'm aiming to get a large enough group of volunteers to then break them up into smaller groups, and have each smaller group take on a month or two of monitoring. Kristen estimates it takes about one hour to do the monthly monitoring, with maybe an additional hour when the invertebrates are surveyed.

The Crow Creek project could be an annual collaboration. Both things involve data gathering; and probably could involve analysis and some kind of presentation, if any of the students were interested.

There probably won't be alcoholic beverages involved...but we might see and save some crabs.
And by invertebrates, we mean these little critters. cute eh?

2. EARTH DAY- APRIL 22
The closest we could come to securing a date for our extravaganza was April 21. But Mitch is still up for dressing up as Captain Planet...we just need someone to donate or find (online/store/attic) a blue leotard, red speedos and yeah...it'll be awesome.

- some kind of out-door movie projector and play "March of the Penguins"--Supy and Alice
-sidewalk chalk mural--NAHS
-posters (facts, tips)-Joseph, Amy
-tie-dye-Amy
-bands-Supy
-plant sale-Mitch, Amy
-make your own pet rock-Jacob
-animal charades-Saiontoni
-Aluminum can (possibly cell phones, ink cartridges, batteries) drive-Matt, Saiontoni
-bake sale, donations to buy some land in the Amazon for conservation-Sara
-trash crafts-NAHS
-publicity-Supy, Jacob, Elizabeth

So obviously, the "committees" aren't set or close. The more the merrier. So talk so someone who's signed up for an event that you'd like to help organize and set up. If you have any questions about what the activities/ideas entail, leave a comment and I or one of the other officers will get back to you. We have about 2 monthes to get all this done, and while it seems like a long time, I bet you there's going to be a lot of bureaucratic red tape with the administration so get started ASAP :) wooooo let's not forget Earth Day this year guys. haha
The founders of Earth Day sure knew how to party.

Now i KNOW you want to play animal charades with this guy. Actually...I don't know, I just like this pictures :)

3. birdhouses-we've chosen 4 locations to install the birdhouses and have submitted it to Mrs. Adams for approval. once we get a nod from her, we can set them up in time for the birds' nesting season. :)
Lovely. but you'd have to ask Jacob what species they are.

4. and don't forget....the garden. We're gonna work with Mr. Matthews and the special ed kids in Horticulture Club. So that'll be something fun for the spring.

awesome right? but ours will be in the ground
 kinda like this.

5. and last but not least...the 2nd Annual SEA picnic/hike. Not sure when or where. but it'll be on a weekend or after school becomes irrelevant (ie. May) :D

And to cap off this frightfully long update, some pics from last year's 1st Annual SEA Picnic/Hike.
 The picnic.

hey everone,

meeting tomorrow (erm...today). sorry i didn't send out emails this time (but just you wait, there will be a deeeelightful electrical mail headed your way next time). Superiya,  Cathy, and I will be in Lower Merion tomorrow (inspecting their recycling program) for a debate tournament. So have fun finding a new spot for the mural (the wall we had in mind will be "inconvenienced" by renovation in the courtyard over the summer). Perhaps consider the corner of the lunchroom (ahem. Stoga Cafe. accent aigu) where no one sits (by the windows. the big windows. not facing the courtyard) or the blank walls in the music wing....but in any case, have fun exploring. Please fill us in on what happens. :D

for your viewing pleasure:

...no explanation necessary. we can all sit on the stump and cry (like emokids.) jk.

frankly, he looks more frightened at the screaming masses trying to grab him (and impale his head with a picket stick) but....

yay! go hug a tree. :D

...now THIS is what i'm talking about. look at all the trees. and the multicolored stick figures hugging them ;)

so do it for the animals...the frightening ones....

the emo ones...

the ghetto ones...with 'ttude...

and the ones that are just too cool for skool.

...or else...mua.ha.ha..

(please don't sue me)

Apologies for the infrequent updates. Hope you guys haven't forgotten this site, though it's understandable if you have.

Ginny (unanimously voted Club Measuring Unit at last Thursday's meeting) brought it to all our attentions that Dubya has begun these next four, long years with a renewed campaign against--no, not terror--but polar bears! America, feel protected as your fearless leader does not read, and probably forgets to recycle, this alarming bit of news: "Studies project that the summer sea ice around the North Pole could disappear entirely by 2104." (Full story: http://www.newsregister.com/news/story.cfm?story_no=187141). If you share our concern (read: if you are a human being, or friendly alien visitor), I hope you'll take a minute to sign here: http://www.savearcticrefuge.org/ .

And remember, if there's ever any environmental issue that you feel has slipped the club's radar, please let one of the board members know. There's never a problem so daunting that collectively we can't find some way of shaking our fists at it.

'lo again. When we start having crazy environmentalist things for yall to do, that's what we'll be putting on this site. But for now, I'm thinking about making a "petition(s) of the week" style post a regular occurrence. Petitions are nice--not too taxing on anybody, and probably the easiest way to make a difference. How's this for a start?

Thanks for your time
